The Atlantique department spans 3,233 km² in southern Benin, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the south and limited by Mono to the west, Zou to the north, and Ouémé to the east. With Allada as capital since 2016, it comprises eight municipalities: Abomey-Calavi, Allada, Kpomassè, Ouidah, Sô-Ava, Toffo, Tori-Bossito and Zè. Housing 1.4 million inhabitants with a density of 432 people/km², it ranks among Benin's most populated departments. The economy relies on agriculture (maize, cassava, pineapple), continental and maritime fishing, and growing tourism with attractions like Ganvié lagoon villages.
