Description:
Ouidah, Benin. Slave Route. Commemorative stelae from the Ouidah 92 international festival, toppled and abandoned among the rubble of the reconstruction site in 2025. The engraved marble plaques, set in red-tinted concrete frames, carry the historical texts relating to the Case de Zomah — the hermetically sealed place of captivity where enslaved people were locked away before being transferred to the Door of No Return. Lying in the dust and debris, these memorial inscriptions await an uncertain fate, suspended between the risk of oblivion and possible reintegration into the new monument.
