Description:
Ouidah, Benin. The Bateau du Départ — replica of the slave ship L'Aurore. The masts and rigging of the 42-meter three-masted vessel emerge above blue corrugated metal construction fencing, creating a striking contrast between the rawness of the ongoing building site and the stately silhouette of the faithfully reconstructed ship. The yellow and black wooden hull is partially visible, its stainless steel strakes and steel shrouds already clearly in place. Final construction phases of the La Marina memorial and tourism complex in Ouidah. January 2026.
