Description:
Ouidah, Benin. Gate of No Return (1995). Overview of the site in November 2025, revealing a major construction zone. On the left, the original gate designed by architect Yves Ahouangnimon — featuring bronzes by Dominique Kouas Gnonnou, egungun by Yves Kpede, and the golden frieze by Fortuné Bandeira — stands facing the Atlantic. On the right, the new Gate of No Return under construction is entirely wrapped in imposing scaffolding covered with green mesh netting. Mounds of sand and blue fencing occupy the ground between the two monuments. November 2025.
