Description:
Petra, Jordan. After a long walk through the Siq, the visitor is greeted by the Khazneh, the most recognized monument of Petra.
Al-Khazneh ("the treasury" in Arabic) is also known as Khazneh el-Faraoun ("treasury of the pharaoh" in Arabic). It's one of the most recognizable and elaborate monuments in Petra, the other monumental monument being "the Monastery" (Ad-Deir in Arabic). Both monuments were carved out of the rock.
It is believed that the Khazneh may have been the mausoleum of Nabatean King Aretas IV (1st century AD). It is probably the most popular tourist attraction in Jordan.
