Beirut, Lebanon. The Phoenicia Hotel Beirut. Built by businessman Najib Salha, the building was designed by architects Edward Durell Stone, Joseph Salerno, Ferdinand Dagher and Rodolphe Elias. It is part of the InterContinental Hotels chain, but has dropped the reference from its name in 2012. The Phoenicia bacame a battlefield during the Lebanese Civil War in 1975-1976 and was left an abandoned ruin until the late 90s. After a massive restauration, the hotel reopened in March 2000. One can see the famous Holiday Inn in the background.
